If the thought of a comfortable cruise and an exciting day's fishing appeals to you, then a sportfishing charter may well be in order. Operators offer whole and half day cruises and often allow shared charters. Food and drink are provided in accordance with the length of the cruise. Some will provide transportation to and from the Careenage in Bridgetown where they set out from. Captains are experienced: usually they have 25-30 years under their belts. Barbados has big open water fish the captains know the best spots to catch Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Billfish, Kingfish, Dorado, Barracuda, Tuna and other feisty speedsters as well as smaller fish found in shallower waters.
This monster Atlantic Blue Marlin shown right weighing 910 lbs was caught by Brian Manning off Barbados on April 6, 1996 and currently holds the local record. Break the record and you'll have a replica made and displayed in the airport for all your envious friends to see. You'll also get one sent to your home, if you can find a place to put it! The crews are happy to assist in making sure beginners and experienced anglers have a good time and you get to keep all the fish you catch. Some charters will arrange to cook what you catch, or advise you on how to sort out the cooking arrangements at your hotel or a nearby restaurant that evening!
