| Barbados - Windsurfing & Surfing |

Conditions for windsurfing in Barbados are excellent. The Trade Winds blow consistently well throughout the year with the best conditions during the winter months. Virtually all the windsurfing takes place on the South and South East Coast of Barbados. The Mistral Club on Maxwell Coast Road is a good place to get started for tuition, equipment rentals and surf reports. Silver Sands on the South East Coast is the Mecca for experienced windsurfers with strong winds, nice waves and a very approachable surf community. There are also a few bars and restaurants nearby to quench your thirst and your appetite. There's also a few hotels and guest houses if you want to remain near the action.
Barbadians like to surf and it is easy to see why; the famous "Soup Bowl" and Parlour at Bathsheba on the East Coast faces the full might of the Atlantic and when surf is up, it can often be "double overhead". In the Winter Season changes in the weather produce excellent breaks all around the island - even on the otherwise calm West Coast. Other popular surf beaches are at Brandons and South Point and when surf is good just follow the cars with boards on. The Barbados Surfing Association is very active and events are held throughout the year often attracting professionals from the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S.A , Florida, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Venezuela. The Barbadian surf community are a friendly lot and you will be able to catch up on all the latest gossip whilst waiting for the next big set to come in. If you are new to surfing you can also get excellent personalised tuition on uncrowded beaches. Boogie-boarders can find excellent beaches mainly on the South and South East Coast. The more experienced can mix it with the surfers at the Soup Bowl.
