Brimstone Hill Fortress (shown right) is one of the best preserved fortifications in the Caribbean. It is built on top of the 800 ft (267m) Brimstone Hill - so named due to the smelly, sulphurous vents in and around it. From the fortress the view is superb. The Circus is the focal point of Basseterre. It is essentially a roundabout in the middle of town. It was modelled on Piccadilly Circus in London and was built following the Great Fire of 1867. In the centre stands The Clock Tower, a memorial built in 1883 to The Honourable Thomas B.H. Berkeley, a local planter and politician.

The South East Peninsula of St. Kitts has large tracts of two main types of natural vegetation t found on the island: dry forests and mangroves.

Visit the natural wonder of the dramatic rock formations at the water's edge, the Black Rocks, these were created by ancient lava flows.

Home to St. Kitts' national bird, the brown pelican, the great salt pond is part of a nature reseerve. An ideal spot for bird watching.

Home of the famous Caribelle Batik and its gardens. Stop on the roadside to see the Carib petroglyphs carved on the rocks.

South Frigate Bay is one such Caribbean beach and has a long stretch of white sand and calm waters. This beach was made for a good book, parasol and a cold drink. There are bars and restaurants at either end (plus a solitary bar in the middle) plus loads of watersports and other beach activities on offer.
