St. Vincent & the Grenadines - How to get here

St. Vincent and Bequia both have modern airstrips with night landing equipment allowing more flexible flight schedules. There are small air strips on Canouan, Mustique and Union Island. The surrounding islands of Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique and Grenada are served from international destinations by Air Canada, American Airlines, Air France, BWIA and British Airways, and as well as seasonal charter services. American Eagle operates a scheduled service between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Canouan. LIAT and Caribbean Star provide scheduled services whilst SVG Air, TIA and Air Mustique are available for charter to St. Vincent and the Grenadine Islands from these international airports. Grantley Adams Airport in Barbados has a help desk in the arrivals hall open from 1:00PM to 8:00PM specifically to assist passengers making connections to St. Vincent and the Grenadine islands.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
You will need a valid passport unless you are a British, Canadian or U.S. national; citizens of these three countries must produce valid photo ID and a birth certificate and a stay of 6 months (at the discretion of the Immigration Department) is permitted. Visas are not required. You will also need a return ticket.

AIRPORT:
E.T. Joshua Airport in St. Vincent is a short drive from the Capital, Kingstown. Taxis are available outside of the arrivals hall and taxi fares are set by government to various areas. Agree the appropriate fare with the taxi driver before setting out on your journey. When leaving any of the islands allow plenty of time to get to the airport. There is a Departure Tax of EC$20.00. Set aside some EC$ stuffed into your ticket for this purpose otherwise you may get caught short of appropriate cash!

SEA PORTS:
You must have the appropriate documentation in order to clear with immigration. There are many excellent bays in which to moor up, but be sure to avoid any marine reserves or protected areas as dropping anchor in these areas is prohibited.

AIRLINE BOOKING TIPS:
Most bookings are between November and March and consequently air fares and room rates are at their highest. Book as early as possible to avoid disappointment - you are also more likely to get exactly the accommodation you want. Outside of this period air fares are generally lower but watch out for the important Carnival festival that runs through June-July; many Vincentians return for this festival and bookings go up. Again, if you are planning to visit at this time of year, book as early as possible otherwise you may miss out on an amazing month of festivities.
